Being that it's late January (something I keep reminding myself - we're almost to Feb!) and I've been covered up in bulky layers, sweaters, scarves, hats, puffy coats, boots, and whatnot for a few months now...I'm starting to yearn for more pretty, feminine things...even though it just isn't all that practical here right now, since its oh so cold and I'm always freezing!Thursday, January 28, 2010

silent snow (& messy pizza)
As for the pizzas, we'd really welcome any homemade pizza-making advice. The top photo shows Hub's tragedy of a pizza. His method for getting the pizza from the peel to the stone consists of rapid shaking and rather spastic motions, until half of the pizza (note: my meatless half) is flipped inside-out onto the stone which resulted in a very "burnt pizza" smell throughout the house. The 2nd pizza, which I then took full control of, turned out much better. I gracefully eased the pizza from the peel to the stone (last photo). Hub has now declared me the official "Pizza Peel to Pizza Stone" person...but I'm not quite sure that it wasn't mostly due to luck. We'll see what happens next time. But I'm still debating the costs of just ordering a brick-oven pizza from Sammy's (our favorite local pizza place) versus making our own.
P.S. That's our old Christmas tree in the very first photo. It's become our little tradition since we moved here to stand our tree up out in the snow after Christmas, never mind that a Pine tree really wouldn't grow in our swampy woods. And do you spot the Chickadee in the 4th photo? We've been feeding them from our hands quite often lately! Its such a sweet way to start the day! :)
P.P.S. I still am not quite sure how to clean the burnt-on cheese and toppings on our very new pizza stone? Help!!!

fruitful Friday...
Hello there!
A new votive using some of my postage stamps as seen in my last post, now in the shop: In My Head, In My Heart Papercut Votive. I like the shape of this votive, short and squatty, and I was really happy with how it turned out! (Actually, I think its just the bottom of an old apothecary jar that was missing it's lid?)
And another new votive, now in the shop too: Birdcage Bliss Papercut Votive.
It was a bit hard to accurately capture this votive's sweetness in photos because the colors are so soft and pale and due to the dreadfully dreary natural light here as of late...but I really do love it, especially when silhouetted against a window or with the glow of a tea light within.
Some new cheery red tags! (Now in the shop: Heartstrings Gift Tags.) So again, more crafting with the hearts cut from old postage stamps.
A little peak of some packaging today...I don't know why but I get excited about labels! I picked these fun red & white ones up from Target after Christmas and I thought they'd be great for Valentine's day or almost anything really!
And finally, on a cozy note...one of my simple pleasures is enjoying leftover homemade soup warmed up the next day in a big, oversized mug. This was lunch today along with some crackers and cheese. Yum!Hope your week has been just as fruitful and sweet!
Happy Weekend!

in the studio {hearts}

Here're just a few little things in the works right now. I've been slowly creating, having brief spurts of inspiration followed by longer moments away from the studio. I blame it on mid-January, cold, gloomy dark days (which make for poor picture-taking), and the fact that one of our old cameras is no longer compatible with our new computer. We can buy some device that will allow us to use it...just haven't done it yet. Blame it on January. Poor January.P.S. I'm listening to Laura Veirs today, a beautiful, sweet and peaceful sounding CD Hub surprised me with last night...perfectly fitting for January.

of wire and pins...

Inspired by those adorable vintage wire pincushion chairs, I had a bit of fun making my own tiny version the other day. I modeled my wire chair after the design of one on a deck of sweet, old playing cards.Monday, January 11, 2010
